    i think i may have some symtoms of depression i just wanted to find more information

    My parents are well, stupid. That’s the only way I can put it to be honest. I’ve researched it up & all & have most of the symptoms. I think I have depression but haven’t let anyone in on it… especially not them. I was pretty scared to tell them in the first place cuz my mum has a funny idea of depression. & my dad, well I don’t really talk to him much. I’ve heard my parents talk about people with depression & they always say weird things. Basically things that make me feel certain they wouldn’t support me if I was to tell them. My mum always starts going on about “it’s probly her husband” or some other dumbarse cause & she talks about it being in the genes. If I told her I had depression she would actually taunt me about my genes (father’s side) as she doesn’t really like them. I’ve had a few things in life which i’ve needed support on which she tries to support me most of the time but she says things that do hurt me… & if I tell her it hurts me she gets angry. I could tell my friends but I only have one friend that I can trust & everything. I’d find it extrememly awkward to tell her thoo cuz I know she’d act different around me. Her parents also have restrictions in what she can do & stuff so I wouldn’t be able to get much help from her. It’s really complicated & sorry this is like an essay but i’m really hesitating. I’ve had this “depression” for almost 2 years & i don’t know what’s caused it. I’m only 15, don’t know what to do & never in my life have I thought i’d be in a situation like this. I hate this feeling of worthlessness, helplessness, & suicide. I have to cry to make myself feel better all the time. Can anyone help me? & please don’t tell me to go & see someone like a doctor/therapist/psychiatrist because i aint allowed to without my mum there. Don’t ask me why.. what exactly is the cause of depression?

    I’ve read that untreated ADHD can cause depression or clinical depression because the person lacks self-esteem and has self-loathing due to their underachievement in life. But is it possible that untreated ADHD can cause clinical depression on a chemical level? Can someone with ADHD be depressed not because he or she is feeling negative about being an underachiever but rather because ADHD is a brain malfunction involving a lack of dopamine? On a brain level (not due to negative thinking) can the “chemical imbalance” of ADHD cause the “chemical imbalance” of depression? Or can ADHD only cause depression in cases where it’s a “thinking problem” and you’re depressed because of your underachievements caused by ADHD?

    Not everyone with ADHD is an underachiever. I get that. I’m saying that (from what I’ve read) SOME people with ADHD get depressed supposedly because they THINK they are an underachiever. This is just what I’ve read about how depression can be secondary disorder to ADHD. What I’m asking is, in the case that if someone is depressed is it really because of them thinking negatively about themselves because they feel like an underachiever or could the depression, with ADHD, be caused by a chemical imbalance which is caused by ADHD?
